About us

Kijiji-Afrika's mission is to empower and support individuals of African descent in the Diaspora by creating a vibrant and inclusive community where they can thrive, connect, and preserve their heritage through comprehensive support and access to essential resources.

Kijiji-Afrika, which means 'Village' in Kiswahili Kijiji-Afrika was founded by Nancy Githoitho, a passionate advocate for community work and the founder of Limau Cancer Connection, a breast cancer organization. Kijiji-Afrika was established to address the lack of representation and resulting disparities faced by persons of African descent in San Francisco. Nancy recognized the declining black population in the city due to gentrification and believed that bringing Africans to the community could help revitalize and increase the black population. Guided by a commitment to inclusivity, collaboration, and community building, Kijiji-Afrika aims to empower and integrate African immigrants into the community, contributing to the preservation and growth of the black population in San Francisco. Since its inception,Kijiji-Afrika has provided resources and support free of charge, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment among African immigrants and their descendants. The organization strives to be a beacon of hope, resilience, and positive change while advocating for social justice faced by Africans in the Diaspora.
