Kijiji has been a necessary and an important group which has served the community in time when the community needed such a group.

The group under the leadership of Nancy has brought several resources together, creating a hub where people have communicated their needs and their needs were met  with readily available resources.

I have done research and managed local, state and federal programs that are research grants based focused on evidence based interventions. As such most of my research felt that it was Eurocentric.

As a researcher, I was to make informed decisions based on representative, randomized research studies. I know the challenges that the research community faces; lack of trust, mistrust, distrust, lack of enthusiasm participation from all diverse stakeholders.

These reasons stems from decades of poorly conducted research that left scars in the community. Thus the medical mistrust. For a long period of time, I have been seeking to learn an Afrocentric approach in research. Being a researcher who practices the do no harm as stipulated by the Nuremberg code of ethics and I am accountable to the community.

It is through Kijiji Afrika that I was able to share that specific need and Kijiji Afrika connected me to Jumuiya Research Institute where I am learning exactly what I need to be such a researcher.

I write this with great appreciation of the importance of such a hub to serve the African Diaspora community here in SF and beyond.
